Close Analysis: Ameliorates and Exacerbates

Close Analysis: Ameliorates and Exacerbates

When commenting on a writer's choice of method, remember that you do not have to identify verbs and similes (although it's recommend to do both) but using words like 'ameliorates' and 'exacerbates' can help you reach higher grades because it encourages precise and more sophisticated analysis.

Put simply, if you are saying the writer chooses to do something on purpose, then you are commenting on method - these two words also nod towards a structural comment.
