When you analyse a text, imagine every word/phrase as a piece of juicy fruit: words are full of flavour, texture and meaning. Your job is to squeeze each word until the juice runs out: explore its connotations, its layered inferences and what it reveals about the writer’s choices. Don’t just see the surface of the word - squeeze it! Ask: why this word? What does it suggest? What happens when I squeeze it further? The more that you squeeze, the more meaning you will find. A great visual trigger for students!
